After 50 years of mortgage payments to 4 different banks and a couple of owner contract sales, we finally own a home.
Some numbers:
-Began career at $3.25 an hour which provided sufficient beer money
-Money to burn after raise to $4 an hour
-Bought first new vehicle (F250 4x4 with lots of bells and whistles) in 1976 for $5,300
-Purchased 10 acres with 14x70 mobile home for $12,000 (owner contract sale)
-With $10,000 down (borrowed), purchased first in-town house: split level with yard
-Fast forward 50 years and several towns and residences later—we own our home, such as it is. Haven’t had “money to burn” since ‘75; can no longer physically keep up with what maintenance needs to be done but we can afford to eat out a couple times a month. And this, compared to many, is an American success story.
Congrats Cal! Kind of as good as it gets really . . . 👏👏
