Many Liberals Are Not
When did we go astray?
Liberalism defined: a broad political and philosophical tradition built around the idea of individual freedom. At its core, it emphasizes protecting people’s rights and limiting concentrated power—whether from governments, monarchs, or major institutions.
Principles:
-People should be free to think, speak, worship, and live as they choose, so long as they don’t harm others.
-Everyone should be treated the same by courts and laws, regardless of class, race, or status.
-Government exists to secure rights, not to dominate people’s lives.
-Traditionally, liberals favor free markets, private property, and free trade, though modern liberalism often supports some government role to ensure fairness and social welfare.
The definition and principles of republicanism are virtually identical. It was the guiding philosophy of the Founding Fathers. It meant no king, a written constitution, separation of powers, and checks and balances. So, why the conflict? Why the belligerence? What faction is promoting the division and to what end? In answering those questions, honestly, is the salvation of our country. And “it’s them” is not the answer.
